
Snowy owls are true owls which are part of the Strigidae family. Male snowy owls are completely or mostly plain white like the one in the picture above. Female snowy owls are white with a ton of dark spots all over them like in the picture below. But here’s the thing, young snowy owls also have a lot of dark spots so it’s kind of hard to tell if it’s a female or if it’s young.

Snowy owls are some of the largest owls since they can weigh over 6 pounds, have a 5 foot wingspan, and be close to 2 and 1/2 feet long. Snowy owls live in the Arctic but some of them migrate south in the winter. Snowy owls can go up to 40 days without food!
