
Ducks are classified in the Anseriformes bird order. The word duck means “diver”. Mallard ducks are also known as Dabbling ducks because of how they eat. Male mallards are called drakes (in the picture above) and females are ducks (in the picture below), but I thought they were both ducks.

Mallards have a 32-39 inch wingspan, weigh about 3 pounds and is 20-26 inches long. Females lay around 8-13 eggs. Amazingly baby ducklings can swim right after they hatch! Human baby’s take about a year to walk.
