Back in ancient Greek and Roman times children were educated by tutors who they could fire if they didn’t like how they were teaching. After the collapse of the roman empire and even a little before that the church had little schools to train bishops. The church and the state argued over whether the bishop was a church office or a civil office. The pope of Rome stripped the power to appoint bishops from the emperor and made a bureaucracy. Suddenly there was to many positions and not enough people to fill them. So universities were made to make more church people. The universities also protected teachers from the free market.

People have been making wine for a very long time by walking on them. This was very dangerous because of the rising carbon dioxide released by the grapes. People often suffocated when treading on grapes. This is how most Romans did it. The poor Romans did it themselves and the rich Romans had their slaves do it. The monks made the wine press to make wine with less of a chance of killing people. The wine press makes far more wine than treading and farmers realized this and brought their grapes to the monks to use the wine press.

Romans copied and renovated ancient Greek style architecture with pillars and domes but when Rome fell that architecture faded away. It was replaced by the Gothic style without pillars and domes but it was heavier and thicker than the Roman architecture. The ribbed vault alowed for higher walls and more windows.

Europe was pretty warm before the little ice age and the growing season was about 3 weeks longer. All the farmers got together and made towns and manors to sleep in. before the little ice age the manors had large fires in the center of the room and holes in the ceiling for the smoke to go out. During the little ice age all the cold air would go in. so the people made chimneys to keep the hot air I and the cold air out.
